Reducing Fear, Anxiety & Depression in Pregnancy

Hypothesis

To prove or deny, that the Fearless Birthing online program can significantly reduce fears (tokophobia), anxiety or depression during pregnancy. 

Ideal participants 

Pregnant women who are anxious or fearful about pregnancy or birth.

Inclusion criteria could include being between 12-16 weeks pregnant at the time of commencing the study, at least 18 years old, able to speak fluent English.

Summary of proposed methodology

Those who consent to take part in the study can initially be administered three questionnaires to measure baseline levels of general and pregnancy-specific anxiety, as well as levels of depression. These surveys can be accessed online. 

Participants will be provided with access to the Fearless Birthing program.

The online Fearless Birthing programme consists of online resources including educational videos, podcasts, and information, in order to alleviate any fears and anxieties regarding the pregnancy. Whilst the course is designed to be self-paced, and will be asked to spend at least one hour using the online resources.

At the end of each of the next three months, all participants will be re-assessed for levels of fear, anxiety or depression.
